MODULE 1: TABLE ETIQUETTE*

Beginners: Dining Skills and Table Manners (1 hr.)

  • Approaching the table and helping girls to be seated; Understanding the table space and identifying items on the table; Correct use of utensils; Proper use of the Napkin; Bread and Butter plate; How to pass items at the table; How to hold and identify Glasses; Handling unwanted food; Identifying the different types of Forks (Dinner, Salad, Dessert) and the correct use of each one as well as using it together with the Knife; Different Dining Styles (American and Continental) and Resting and Close-Out Positions for each; How to cut food and how to apply Salad Dressing; How to use the Knife as a fence to eat difficult foods; Understand when to use just the Fork or Spoon or both when eating Dessert and Resting and Close-Out Positions; Appropriate Conversations, Accidents at the Table.

Intermediate: Table Setting, Service and Planning a Party (1 hr.)

  • Children will learn how to correctly set a Formal Table; Service of food and drinks; How to be a good Host and Guest; Silent Service; Understanding how much work it takes to plan a party and how to budget Money and Time, Invitations, Presents.

Advanced: Traveling (1 hr.) By request.

  • Eating difficult foods; Understanding Other Cultures; What to do Before you Leave; Dining in Foreign Restaurants; Decoding Upscale Restaurant Menus; Tipping.

Four Course Dinner (1.5 hr.)

  • Children will share a four course meal to demonstrate and practice the dining and social etiquette skills they learned. Must have taken Beginners lesson to be able to attend.

*Our groups of up to 7 children allow attention to detail and to make sure we can make corrections when necessary while teaching.

MODULE 2: SOCIAL SKILLS

Beginners: Introductions / New Situations/ General Social Skills (1 hr.)

  • Children will learn the importance of making a great first impression and how our body language, correct posture and good listening skills plays a big role in it. Rules of introduction to help them develop their confidence in their knowledge and ability to introduce themselves to others; the importance of eye contact and how to shake hands; How to learn and remember names; Appropriate conversations; The appropriate time to stand to show respect in many situations; Courtesies to remember when boys and girls walk on a sidewalk, staircases, escorting, approaching doors, elevators, etc.; Helping a female from her chair; Importance of posture and standing with confidence; Theater and symphony protocol.

Intermediate: Correspondence and Thank You Notes / Phone Skills / Respect and Courtesy (1 hr.)

  • We will discuss the importance of having good phone etiquette and practice polite manners; Positive and negative aspects of using technology and how to stay safe while communication on the web and through text messages; The correct format for writing a Thank you Note and when it is warranted; How to recognize and act when dealing with emergency situations; Identify the reasons why Respect and Courtesy are necessary in every area of one’s life and the importance of Good Manners at Home and in Public that will help put your parents in a good mood.

Advanced: College Interviews (1 hr.) By request

  • This lesson will help the Children to develop successful job and college interviews and develop public speaking skills; Making a good impression for Interviews and questions to ask; Preparing for One Minute/Elevator Speech.
