Lesson 1: First Impressions and The Knife (1 hr.) One Course Finger Foods and Spreads.

  • Children will learn the proper Rules of Introduction; the Importance of Eye Contact and How to Shake Hands; How to Learn and Remember Names; Appropriate Conversation and the Importance of Having Good Listening Skills and Body Language; Showing Appreciation and Gratitude.

  • Approaching the table and helping girls to be seated; Understanding the table space and identifying items on the table; Correct use of utensils; Proper use of the Napkin; Bread and Butter plate; How to pass items at the table; How to hold and identify Glasses; Handling unwanted food; Correct use and proper way to hold the Knife.

Lesson 2: The Spoon (1 hr.) Two Course (Soup and Parfait)

  • Children will review and practice everything learned in the previous lesson plus the importance of being a good Host and Guest; how to use the Spoon correctly. How food is served and the different types of Soup Bowls (Rimmed/Cream Soup Bowl and Lug Soup Bowl); Correct way to eat Soup and how to cut with the Spoon as well as learning Resting and Close-Out Positions; How to eat a Parfait. 

Lesson 3: The Fork (1 hr.) Three Course (Salad, Main and Dessert)

  • In this lesson, children will learn to identify the different types of Forks (Dinner, Salad, Dessert) and the correct use of each one as well as using it together with the Knife; Different Dining Styles (American and Continental) and Resting and Close-Out Positions for each; How to cut food and how to apply Salad Dressing; How to use the Knife as a fence to eat difficult foods; Understand when to use just the Fork or Spoon or both when eating Dessert and Resting and Close-Out Positions. 

Lesson 4: Telephone Skills and Thank you Notes (1 hr.) Pizza

  • In this lesson children will learn the correct way to eat Pizza in a social and more formal setting while practicing Continental and American Styles of eating. After eating, we will discuss the importance of having good Phone Etiquette and practice polite manners and How to Act in Emergencies; The correct format for writing a Thank you Note and when it is warranted.

Lesson 5: Four Course Meal (1hr.) Soup, Salad, Main and Dessert

  • Children will share a four course meal to demonstrate and practice the dining and social etiquette skills they learned.

Lesson 6: Parent/Student Wrap up (1 hr.)

  • In this lesson, the children will be showing their new acquired skills to their parents who will be surprised and proud when they see how much they have learned. Parents are welcome to ask Questions and Certificates will be given to children.
